As we near the end of the season underclassmen are starting to test the waters of the NFL Draft. Here's a few headlines from around the country to check up on who's considering jumping to the pros.
Michael Crabtree's father has stated that he's leaning towards leaving school and entering the draft as a redshirt sophomore. Excellent decision by Crabtree. His stock couldn't possibly get any higher than it is, and with Graham Harrell graduating, it can only go downhill next season.
Pete Carroll is already hyping up junior safety Taylor Mays. Carroll, and other players on the team, claim that Mays is the fastest Trojan and may be able to run a forty in the 4.25 range. I'm skeptical, but if he can post those types of numbers at the combine he just may come off the board in the top ten.
Fresh off of winning the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award, Boston College's Mark Herzlich reiterates that he's planning on staying in school. Herzlich isn't a first round pick, but it's still a curious decision to return. He exceeded expectations this year and doesn't have much to gain by returning to school. With Boston College coming off back-to-back ACC title game appearances, now would be as good time for Herzlich to cash in his chips and move on.
George Selvie will delay his decision until after USF's bowl game. Selvie can't go wrong with his decision. If he leaves, he's a late first or early second round pick. There are still holes in his game however, and he could potentially climb up the draft board if he returns for his senior year.
The Indianapolis Star reports that Nate Davis is leaving early. Well that may be news to Nate Davis at this point, but it likely will be the case eventually. Realistically Ball State won't improve upon this season, meaning Davis' stock is at its peak. Depending on who else leaves early, Davis is a potential first round pick.
