Mark Sheldon, of MLB.com, reports the Cincinnati Reds will not pick up the $8.5 million option for the 2010 season on C Ramon Hernandez, according to general manager Walt Jocketty. However, the team is trying to negotiate a new deal with their catcher. The buyout of Hernandez's option is worth $1 million. He is rated as a Type B free agent, which means the team would receive a first-round sandwich pick in the 2010 Draft if he is signed by another team. C Ryan Hanigan would likely serve as the starter if Hernandez departs.
